All the residents in Wicked Walter are purely imagined characters. However, Josh Geary’s dogs—Charlie and Bowie—are inspired by two real-life pups I encounter daily. You met Charlie last month, and now it’s time to introduce you to Bowie.
This charming guy made his way to my neighborhood a few years back. Like Charlie, Bowie is a street dog, which around here means he’s loved by an entire community of families who shower him with affection and tasty leftovers. Despite his tough-guy act, Bowie is a big softie who loves to follow me all around town.
Recipe of the Month: Lechona
Imagine indulging in a delightful plate of slow-roasted pork paired with savory peas and rice. I don’t just imagine it; it’s a staple in my weekly meals. This mouthwatering Colombian dish is known as lechona.
Every Saturday, I make my way to the local market, where I buy fresh fruits and vegetables and snap a few street photos. While I’m exploring, I always make sure to stand in line for a serving of lechona. There are vendors on either end of the market dishing it out, but getting there early is a must, because this culinary gem usually sells out before noon.
